The Life Path and Birthday Numbers
Excerpt from the book Numerology; Key To Your Inner Self.
YOUR DATE OF BIRTH -- A DOORWAY IN TIME
We don't do what we want and yet we are responsible for what we are --
that is the fact.
Jean Paul Sartre
If ever there was a moment of total transformation, it was the moment of your birth. In
that instant, you stepped through a door in time into a new reality -- the reality of human
life. You left behind the memory of what was before, and entered the physical realm in the
purest condition: untouched by this world; not yet influenced; not yet inhibited; and free
of concepts expectations, judgments, and self-consciousness. (Small wonder that everybody
around you instantly fell in love with you!)
Yet, even at that moment, you were a person with your own unique character, as unique as
your DNA. Everything that is you existed in potential, much like a play that is about
to begin.
Your life is indeed like a play. Birth is the raising of the curtain; death the curtain's
descent. The play has evolved through various stages of preparation, but does not really
begin until you are born.
When all the players go on stage, they have been prepared for their parts. Their characters
are outlined, and the stage is set. At the moment the curtain is raised, the play itself
exists as a potential within the characters, the director, the musicians, and the audience.
In the same way, the moment of your birth provides that broad outline for your life. Your
entire life exists as a potential that has been prepared for. You have ultimate freedom
to do with your life as you like: To fulfill its potential completely, or to make some smaller
version of yourself. It all depends upon your effort and commitment. You make the decisions
to fulfill, to whatever extent, the potential life that exists within you. That is your
choice. In this sense, the possible you is implicit during the moment of your birth.
The Life Path number.
The most important number in your numerology chart is based on the date of your birth,
the moment when the curtain goes up in your life. This number is called the Life Path number.
It can be compared to the plot of a potential play. The Life Path number gives us a broad
outline of the opportunities, challenges, and lessons we will encounter in this lifetime.
End of excerpt.
The Life Path, as is the case with all numbers derived from your date of birth,
has to do with the momentum, the direction, of your life. The Life Path is a cycle.
Food for thought:
This age-old method is founded on the concept that your Life Path is based on your three
Period Cycles.
Therefore, in order to calculate your Life Path number, you actually calculate your Period
Cycles first.
Your three Period Cycles are based on your month, day, and year of birth, and represent
the early, middle, and later part of your life respectively. Your complete life's cycle
-- your Life Path -- has all the attributes reflected in the Life Path's number. However,
the Life Path is also influenced by the properties and traits revealed in each of these
Period Cycles.
MATHEMATICAL PROCEDURES in NUMEROLOGY
How to Find Your Life Path number.
First, we reduce each unit (month/day/year) of the birth date to a single-digit or a Master
number.
Next we add each of the resulting digits (or Master numbers) together and reduce the total
again to a single-digit.
Example:
October 12, 1936.
October is the 10th month. Reduce 10 to a single-digit. 1 + 0 = 1
The day of birth is 12. We reduce 12 to 3 (1 + 2 = 3)
The year of birth is 1936. We reduce 1936 to 1 + 9 + 3 + 6 = 19. 1 + 9 = 10. 1 +
0 = 1. The year 1936 reduces to 1.
We now add the resulting single digits.
month = 1, day = 3, year = 1. Total is 5
The Life Path number is 5.
Another example: November 22, 1911
November is the 11th month. The 11 is a Master number and is not reduced.
The 22nd day is also a Master number: 22.
The year 1911 reduces to 12, which reduces to 3.
month = 11
day = 22
year = 3
--
total = 36
We reduce 36 to 9. The Life Path is 9.
About the Birth Day number:
The day you were born bears great significance in understanding who you are and where
your talents lie. The day of birth indicates some special talent you possess. It is a gift
to you that will help you along your Life's Path. Your day of birth is one of your four
core numbers -- the Life Path, Expression, Heart's Desire, and Personality being the other
four. It is the least significant of the five core numbers, but perhaps the most finite,
in that it reveals a specific ability you possess in a marked degree.
Your Birth Day number is the number of the day you were born, and is examined as both a
single- and a double-digit number. The reason for this twofold way of looking at the number
is that a double-digit Birth Day number suggests that you possess additional characteristics
not directly revealed by the single-digit number. For example, a person born on day 15 can
be said to have a 6 Birth Day number (1 + 5), but the double digits, the 1 and the 5, suggest
other abilities and character traits not revealed by the 6 alone. The 15 brings very different
underlying talents to the 6 than does the 24, which is derived from the 2 and the 4, also
a 6, but is quite different in nature. This is particularly important when understanding
the Birth Day number, and for that reason all thirty-one Birth Days are described separately.
